Yesterday's Lunch Date

Here are the charming dates that I had lunch with yesterday....

P.S. I've updated the Etsy shop, even though it's a bit depressing, over a year there and still not a sale....

A little corner of the universe...

Here's a little corner showing a new item I made...I really like Mexican folk art, well all folk art really and this was inspired by such art. I found the frame ages ago and finally decided on something to go in it...It's rather small, around 3 x 5 (but I didn't exactly measure it). It's made with paper clay and painted with acrylics. But I painted it in such a way that it looks metal...I even fooled J. Enjoy!

Trying New Things

This is a new painting just completed (still wet in fact). It's a little different than my usual stuff, but I really like it. I have sketches and plans for a similar style painting. The first two images are crops of the larger painting shown at the bottom. Let me know what you think...

Quick Glimpses

Sometimes I find my work evolving from those quick, half-seen glimpses that you never give a moments notice to. But I like that. Sometimes I think we see clearer those things that try to slip by unnoticed....

This particular painting was inspired by a quick, moving scan of a crowded group of people appearing in a movie...my eyes locked down on a image and haunted me until had recreated a version of what I had seen and resulting in the above painting.
I find I do this a lot....See or rather think I see something just out of vision which I must then create a clearer version.

But I think that's an important thing about art.....capturing that which defies being captured....

Oh, to be away....

I've always loved those paintings and illustrations that transport you someplace new...I can sometimes stare at a picture for what feels like hours getting lost in the details, and daydreaming of what could happen in such a place....my eyes trace every visible line and follow along streets, turning corners until I'm almost trapped in the painted world....book illustrations especially...names like Arthur Rackham, Trina Schart Hyman, Winsor McKay, Roberto Innocenti, and there are so many more. these artists bring alive worlds and people which are so inviting, so welcoming it's hard not to get lost for awhile...hence the power of books and art.....

The Devils will get ya...

The first picture is keeping with the sketch theme and the second photo is really for the sake of color...I made these guys with clay and then baked them in the over, and afterwards were painted...I like that they look terracotta....Even though you can't see it, they have little pointy devil tails on the back of them...

Today at work, we created puppets with children and in my wielding of the hot gun glue I burned the tip of my finger which promptly began sporting a lovely white bubble of a blister.....so that stinks....and still hurts for that matter....

Jack Frost....

Still in sketch-posting mode. Here is a sketch completed quite a while ago....but I still feel like this guy is still outside rattling all the windows....

More Random Sketches

Well since the last post was about unsung sketches, I thought I 'd add some more. That first one really has no meaning, but she seems to be saying something...I just can't quite figure it out.

And the second one is our dog Buddy who just happens to look so cute when sleeping that I sketch him unawares.....this one was done more recently....on Christmas Eve as a matter of fact...before the horrible holidays...

Let me know what you think.....
Thanks!

Sketchy Goldilocks

Whoops, someone got caught. This was a quick sketch, finished rather quickly. It's almost a shame to have all these sketchbooks filled with images that may never see paint or light of day...but I suppose every artist/writer/musician/whatever has those works which need to be gotten out of the way so greater, more refined works can get out....play on paper, is really what it is...but you have to do it, let yourself play, make mistakes, figure things out, allow yourself to make "bad" work.....it's all part of the process, sometimes painful, but what birth isn't. I know what I'm saying isn't groundbreaking or all that original, but sometimes we have to hear ourselves say or think something in order to believe it...own it to believe it....make the world your own.....and play on paper while your at it.........

New Stuff, Old Stuff...

New Stuff (not so wild about this one)
Old Stuff

Just something to look at while the current stuff dries.
I joined Facebook (oh, the horror and shame...)
But it's been great getting to see old (well, not literally) faces.

New year's resolutions: hmmm....maybe stop typing in short, little incomplete sentences....(nah!)
ummm....maybe quit using ellipses and parenthesis in the wrong fashion........(never!)
errrrr.....foregoing the whole resolution because I never stick with it.....(we have a winner!)

So, whether or not you believe in or make resolutions....I hope you stick to your guns....
